I don't know exactly why I picked this thread to post some musings on God vs. Satan (as it has little to do with the posters question), but I posted this after contemplating the paradox of evolving to the point where humankind became disturbed by our dependence on eating other animals, yet loftily believing that we should be above these animalistic traits, while we ourselves are still animals.

God and Satan are two sides of the same coin (did God not create Satan?).
The struggle is not between "God" and "Satan", but within ourselves.
The real stuggle is between the "spirit" (aka God aka the Ego+SuperEgo aka your conscience) and the "flesh" (aka Satan aka the Id). We are in constant struggle between what we believe to be right and good versus our wants, desires and needs.
Yes... needs. Our very needs can be against what we believe to be right and good -- this is the pinnacle of the paradox... and I have a couple good examples:
Eating meat
Killing and eating the flesh of other animals was a necessary part of our evolutionary history, and is contains important vitamins that cannot be obtained from vegetables alone (i.e. you have to take a suppliment of some sort, or consume minute amounts of fecal matter -- basically you have to eat animals, eat shit, or die if you don't have access to vitamin suppliments).
Basically it's shoved in our mortal faces that we still are animals, no matter the lofty thoughts of vegetarianism and being kind to all animals.
Sex and reproduction
Sex -- essentially an animalistic carnal act that with all the love and romance stripped away involves lusty desires and messy bodily fluids. Then comes reproduction -- a foreign body developing inside like a tumor and working its way out several months later with a lot of pain and mess. Animals do it. We do it. It's a necessary part of our existence. We could not have gotten here without it, and we cannot continute to exist without it.
Yes, we enjoy sex and eating meat (at least the majority of humans do) but they are essentially animal drives.
Want an easier test of your animal mortality? See how long you can hold your breath. Probably not more than a minute or two... maybe three. Your body will soon let you know who is boss ;)
We believe the grace of our humanity is to be able to overcome our animalistic desires, but this is what and who we are -- we are still animals.
Maybe someday we'll transfer our consciousness into a supercomputer... but maybe we're missing the point. Maybe our existence here is just an insignificant blip of a far greater existence beyond our comprehension.
We are not meant to stay here forever. Our time here is meant to be experienced and enjoyed. Taken for what it is... a little vacation from immortal eternity.
